Financial Planning Best RIAs to Work For

Announced on 12/3/24 for the 2024 calendar year, Financial Planning Magazine, in partnership with Best Companies Group, compiled a ranking of the nation’s best RIAs to work for. Eligible firms must be SEC-registered with 10 employees in the U.S., located in the U.S., and in business for at least one year. Financial professionals across the country were surveyed about their firms’ leadership, culture, pay, benefits, training, work environment, engagement, and communications. Separately, Best Companies evaluated workplace policies, benefit programs, philosophy, systems, and demographics. An overall score was calculated using all measurements listed. In the end, 52 RIAs were selected. No Compensation was given or received in exchange for this award.

InvestmentNews Best Places to Work

Participating registered investment advisers must complete a two-part process to be considered for inclusion on the list. The first part consists of evaluating each registered company’s workplace policies, practices, and demographics. The second part relies on an anonymous employee survey to measure their experience. Best Companies Group (BCG) manages the overall registration and survey process, analyzes the data from the employer questionnaire and employee surveys, and uses their expertise to determine the final rankings.

Forbes.com America’s Top Wealth Advisors

Forbes’ State by State Ranking was developed by SHOOK Research and is based on in-person and telephone due diligence meetings and a ranking algorithm that includes client retention, industry experience, review of compliance records, firm nominations and quantitative criteria, including assets under management and profitability.

Washingtonian

DC’s Top Wealth Adviser and Hall of Fame

To arrive at the names of the area’s 375 top financial advisers, the Washingtonian distributed surveys to hundreds of people who work in the local financial industry, asking them whom they would trust with their own money. Washingtonian also did their own research, consulting industry experts and publications. The Top Wealth Advisers are the people who received the strongest recommendations. The Hall of Fame Award requires being named a Top Financial Adviser at least eight of the past 14 years, including three of the most recent five. The current Top Financial Adviser award was published 1/15/24 and is valid for 18-24 months.

Five Star Wealth Manager Award

Issued on 10/1/24 (Chicago) and 10/16/24 (Washington DC) for the time period 1/9/24 through 8/9/24. FSP reviews peer and firm nominations to identify and verify candidates and conduct regulatory reviews. Candidates are then asked to submit specific data related to eligibility and selection criteria. Required eligibility criteria include being credentialed as a registered investment adviser (RIA) or a registered investment adviser representative with an active license as RIA or as a principal of a registered investment adviser firm for a minimum of 5 years; a favorable regulatory and complaint history review; fulfilling their firm review based on internal standards; and accepting new clients. Evaluation criteria considered are one-year and five-year client retention rates; non-institutional discretionary and/or non-discretionary client assets administered; number of client households served; and education and professional designations.

Northern Virginia Magazine Top Financial Professionals

Announced on 5/22/24 for publication in the September 2024 issue. Northern Virginia financial professionals are surveyed and asked to recommend other financial professionals to whom they would refer friends and family; Northern Virginia Magazine vets those nominated to determine the list of winners.

Financial Adviser RIA Survey & Ranking

FA’s RIA Ranking is an independent listing produced by Financial Advisor magazine and is based on assets under management at year end, reported by firms that voluntarily complete and submit FA’s survey by a deadline. Firms must be registered investment advisors and provide financial planning and/or related services to individual clients. All firms must be either independently owned or a freestanding subsidiary of another business.
