Hemington was a proud sponsor for the Virginia Women Attorneys Association event, “Finding Your Path to Professional Growth and Personal Joy,” which raised $1,120 for the Lorton Action Community Center.
Jen Dawson moderated the panel discussion in which senior women lawyers shared their experiences and advice on managing some of the challenges featured in Hemington’s Breadwinner Women Lawyer study. Supporting events like this one aligns with Hemington’s vision for lifting up women lawyers. We understand and are in awe of how women lawyers are challenged with even more pressures – financial and societal – than the average breadwinner woman. And – as we wrote in our women lawyer study – we strongly believe more women need to rise to the highest levels of the legal profession in order to represent the perspectives, needs and concerns of other women and have a larger say in legal issues that affect us all.

The study helps advisors better understand the unique characteristics, priorities, preferences and top concerns of the next generations of investors—Millennial and Generation X investors. Nationwide’s Advisor Authority study showed that advisors today must look to the future and adapt—or be left behind. The advisors poised to succeed in the face of these challenges are those who can differentiate themselves by focusing on holistic financial planning, harnessing the benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and creating the competitive advantage of a unique customer experience. Overarching everything, it is clear that the client must come first—a commitment that Hemington has been making from day one.

Jen shares how being narrowly focused on helping women lawyers has been valuable for her clients and for the growth of her practice. She explains that when an advisor is tuned in to the common issues and unique challenges the clients are facing, he or she will ask better questions, speak their language, model more impactful scenarios, and broach topics that lead to the most meaningful discussions. A more focused niche practice leads to deeper client and COI relationships, a stronger value proposition, and the best kind of efficient and predictable growth.

Jen highlights the ways that Hemington’s specialization in serving women lawyers benefits clients, helps to eliminate competition, increase referrals, and provides greater clarity in business strategy. Jen was a speaker on this same topic at NAPFA’s National Conference in October 2019.
