The InvestmentNews Best Places to Work for Financial Advisors award showcases the top 75 financial advice businesses that go beyond offering financial advisors attractive benefits and perks, creating workplaces that empower employees with the skills and confidence necessary to deliver the best possible investment and financial planning guidance to clients.
Over 44,000 nominations were vetted by methodology headed by SHOOK Research. Eileen and Jen were selected through qualitative and quantitative industry research focused on finding advisors who are leading the way in offering best practices and providing a high-quality experience for clients.
Every 18-24 months, Washingtonian Magazine asks hundreds of people who work in the local financial industry whom they would trust with their own money. DC’s Best Financial Advisers are the people who received the strongest recommendations. The Hall of Fame Award requires being named a Top Financial Adviser at least eight of the past 14 years, including three of the most recent five.
The Five Star Wealth Manager award recognizes professionals in the financial services industry who are committed to excellence and provide quality services to their clients. Fewer than 7% and 6% of those considered for the awards were named to the 2023 lists in Chicago and Washington DC, respectively.
Northern Virginia Magazine surveyed financial professionals in the region and asked them to recommend other financial professionals to whom they would refer family and friends. Those who received the most nominations made the list.
Financial Advisor Magazine annually reports an exclusive list of the nation’s leading independent financial advisory firms based on their total discretionary and non-discretionary assets reported on their Form ADV.
The depth of Hemington’s metro-area advisors along with its annual revenue and fee-only financial planning focus were positive consideration factors that have consistently placed it on the list against other wealth management firms in the Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC area.
Jen Dawson was recently recognized by NAPFA members as an advisor whom they believed deserved to be recognized for her professional accomplishments and commitment to promoting women within the profession. She hosts regular women’s networking events and is a volunteer leader and co-founder of the mentorship program of NAPFA’s Women’s Initiative.
Jen Dawson was invited to speak to Imprivata’s members on a live webinar focused on building wealth for women. She addressed financial challenges specific to women and provided her expertise on how to get control of one’s finances, have confidence in investing, and gain clarity with one’s financial plan. Hemington is committed to educating and supporting women with the information they need to be successful independent investors and to build their own wealth.
Eileen O’Connor was delighted to return to her alma mater, The University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, as a guest lecturer. She shared her journey from student to business owner for fourth year Entrepreneur majors.

Inspired by an article recently published by the WBAI – “What Are You Looking Forward to Right Now?” – this interactive virtual workshop shared practical strategies to move lawyers down the path from goal setting to goal achievement. Gardner, the event perfectly aligned with Hemington’s aim to help more women lawyers rise to the highest levels of the legal profession.
